The NSWGR 48 class diesel electric locomotive was part of a total of 212 Goodwin Alco DL531 locomotives built from the late 1950s onwards. Significant numbers are still in regular use in New South Wales and South Australia. The kit was a joint venture between O-Aust Kits and Bergs Hobbies. With the acquisition of Century Models by O-Aust Kits, for administrative purposes the O-Aust interest is now located under the Century Models name, although the carton the kit comes in will continue to bear the O-Aust/Bergs name. The model consists of pewter, lost wax and polyurethane castings. Currently the Series 1 and Series 4 versions are available. Series 2 and Series 3 versions are currently being produced and a South Australian / Australian National 830 class version is planned. The current mechanism is powered on all axles by a Northwest Shortline 2940 can motor. Enquiries concerning the proposed alternative K&M mechanism should be directed to Bergs Hobbies.
