The QLX louvred van, of which 750 were built, were manufactured in the 1960s by Commonwealth Engineering in Brisbane. The prototype was of steel construction and was suitable for express freight and passenger trains. They were the main wagon used for general freight on the Queensland system from their introduction until the advent of containerisation. Some are still in use. They were designed to be bogie exchanged to run interstate but none ever actually made the trip over the border into New South Wales

The kit is made up of polyurethane, pewter and lost wax brass castings and runs on modified Athearn Symington type bogies fitted with specially made NWSL wheelsets, enabling it to be run on S gauge track. The van can also be run on O gauge track using unmodified Athearn bogies.
